The brief
The imagined courtyard receives strong afternoon sun and regular sea breezes, but its long garden outlook should remain open. The room needs to support relaxed seating and occasional dining without feeling enclosed.
The concept
A louvred pergola establishes the overhead plane. Retractable screens are reserved for the most exposed sides so they disappear when conditions are calm. A low-glare radiant heater sits above the primary lounge zone rather than trying to warm the entire courtyard.
What needs confirming
Coastal exposure changes coating, maintenance and fixing considerations. Wind rating, drainage, electrical supply, screen use and local approval requirements would all need project-specific review.
